Feb. 18--A Towneplace Suites extended-stay hotel is planned for the intersection of Route 157 and Center Grove Road, in Edwardsville.

The 90-room hotel project is a joint venture of R.L.P. Development Co., of Edwardsville, and General Hotels Corp., of Indianapolis. They said Thursday that Marriott International has awarded them a TownePlace Suites franchise for the project.

Robert Plummer, president and chief executive of R.L.P. Development, said in a statement the developers plan to bring "an excellent facility" to the Edwardsville and Glen Carbon area.

Hotel plans include 90 studios, one-bedroom or two-bedroom suites with kitchens. A swimming pool and meeting rooms also are planned.

A General Hotels spokeswoman said the hotel's projected cost and construction timetable have yet to be determined. General Hotels will operate the Edwardsville TowneSuites.

R.L.P. Development Co. is an affiliate of R.P. Lumber and Plummer Cos., of Edwardsville. The organization said it owns 11 hotels, operates 59 lumber yards, two truss plants, two Berkshire Hathaway real estate offices and is a developer of residential and commercial properties.
