Hotel adds to the Art and Soul of Savannah’s City Market at Ellis Square

ATLANTA (March 31, 2016) – Noble Investment Group ("Noble") announces the opening of the 252-room Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District, which is managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies. Located at 201 West Bay Street, the Hotel Indigo® sits in the heart of historic Savannah in the former Guckenheimer tobacco warehouse and grocery, a nationally registered landmark built in 1850. The hotel is located in the neighborhood of City Market at Ellis Square, which was once known for its southern charm and as a contemporary hub of commerce for farmers and fishermen. Today, locals and visitors from around the world enjoy fine dining, retail, arts and entertainment in this downtown destination known as the Art and Soul of Savannah. From the preservation of the original building’s historic past to the art installations that embrace the vibrant soul of the neighborhood today, guests will be inspired by the stories seamlessly integrated into the design and service style of the Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District.

Kellie Lindner, General Manager said: “We are excited to welcome guests to the Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District in the heart of City Market at Ellis Square. This boutique hotel delivers a truly authentic local experience inspired entirely by the very community that surrounds it. You will taste the local flavor on our menus and see it in the art and photography displayed on our walls. You will catch guests and neighbors hanging out in our bars and get great advice from our team members on the many things to see and do in our wonderful community."

Upon entering the hotel, guests are immediately drawn in by an etched glass piece of art that depicts Savannah’s famous oak trees. The building was returned to its original historic shell, preserving century-old materials and historic details including exposed brick and unearthed structural timber beams which are visible throughout the property. Students at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) submitted various art pieces to be featured in the hotel, and the winning piece is displayed in an art installation on the east end of the building. Local artist Meryl Turret designed the guest room murals which showcase historic bottles that were unearthed in this district of Savannah, and each room also features unique watercolor pieces that highlight the original market building. There are also several additional murals throughout the hotel which are replications of original advertisements from the Guckenheimer warehouse and market.

As a nod to the beautiful Spanish moss covered oak trees that provide a canopy in Savannah’s historic district, the hotel features The Five Oaks Taproom restaurant, offering breakfast and dinner. The restaurant serves locally inspired dishes with ingredients sourced from within 90 miles of Savannah, whenever possible. The Five Oaks Taproom partners with local vendors including Leopold’s Ice Cream, a beloved Savannah staple that opened in 1919, and Savannah Bee Honey and Service Brewing Co., a veteran owned craft brewery located in Savannah. Guests are invited to enjoy the Savannah Classic, a cocktail made with Savannah 88 Bourbon, nosh on dishes like the braised brisket served over Aztec blue corn grits, or try one of the many local beers on tap from local breweries.

Guestrooms feature plush bedding, hard-surface flooring with area rugs and spa-inspired bathrooms. Guests also have access to a 24-hour fitness center and 6,000 square feet of flexible event space. The Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District features the brand’s Neighborhood Guide, an innovative touchscreen display that connects guests to each other, the local neighborhood and to Hotel Indigo locations around the world. Hotel team members, many of whom are locals themselves, will share their favorite hidden gems with guests looking to explore and discover the neighborhood.
