Orlando, Florida, October 2015—The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) has awarded The Maslow Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa the Certified Guest Service Property designation. To earn this distinction, the property trained employees with AHLEI’s Guest Service Gold®, with 65 employees earning the Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP®).

The Maslow, a Sun International property, opened in 2013. The 281-room property serves a primarily corporate clientele, but also caters to local and international leisure guests.

"Our vision was always centered in creating an empowered, engaged and integrated team at The Maslow, and we are very proud to have partnered with the International Hotel School (IHS) and the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute in supporting our objectives,” said Ashwin Jose, general manager. “Thank you for this recognition. It reaffirms our commitment in staying true to our employee value proposition and being an employer of choice within the hospitality sector."

Jose noted that the staff found the training very informative and are committed to delivering delightful guest experiences built upon authenticity, empathy, and being service champions—some of the key traits of the Guest Service Gold® training.

Stuart Blackburn, managing director, Training Division Head Office, International Hotel School, AHLEI’s global partner in South Africa, personally presented Jose and the staff of the Maslow with their Certified Guest Service Property plaque.

“This is indeed a significant achievement for The Maslow Hotel, and testimony to the leadership’s commitment to ongoing learning, development and certification of all employees at the property. In addition, The Maslow’s achievement of Business Hotel of the Year in 2014 highlights the business value of return on training investment,” said Blackburn.
