NEW YORK – (February 5, 2019) – Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Hurlburt as its new Area Director of Operations for New York and Pennsylvania and as General Manager of Kimpton Muse Hotel in Manhattan. In his new role, Matthew will oversee six Kimpton properties in both states: Kimpton Hotel Eventi, Kimpton Ink48 Hotel and Kimpton Muse Hotel in New York City; Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia and Kimpton Hotel Palomar Philadelphia and Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh.
As Area Director of Hotel Operations for New York and Pennsylvania, Matthew will work closely with the General Managers as well as with the leaders of various departments of each of the hotels to maximize potential. As General Manager of Kimpton Muse Hotel, where he will be based, Matthew will be responsible for all aspects of the hotel and its day-to-day operations, including the 181 guest rooms and 19 suites, and dining destination. Matthew will be overseeing a multimillion-dollar renovation throughout 2019 including an innovative fitness center, refreshed public spaces, a new bar concept and an expansive new suite featuring a private gym. “Matthew has been a member of the Kimpton family for over six years and has proven to be an invaluable leader,” said Ben Timashenka, Regional Vice President of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “Coupled with his more than two decades of hospitality experience, we are confident that he will do a superb job overseeing six of our boutique hotels located in the key markets of New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.”
A nearly 25-year hospitality industry veteran, Matthew began his career in California, initially at Woolley’s Petite Suites in Santa Ana and then the Hyatt Regency Long Beach. He moved to Dallas, working at Hyatt Regency DFW Airport, before making his way to New York, where he worked at the Grand Hyatt New York. Matthew then headed to Washington, D.C. and from 1998 to 2012 held successive management positions at the Hyatt Fair Lakes in Fairfax, VA; Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA; Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill; and Grand Hyatt Washington. In 2012, Matthew joined Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants as General Manager of the Hotel Monaco Alexandria, and in 2013 was named Kimpton’s Area Director of Hotel Operations for the Mid-Atlantic Region, where he oversaw seven properties in Washington, D.C. totaling more than 1,100 keys and over 300 employees.
