SAN FRANCISCO — (April 10, 2019) — The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel, part of the diverse and distinctive portfolio of hotels known as Sonesta Hotels & Resorts, is pleased to announce Euan Taylor’s appointment as their new General Manager. A hospitality executive dedicated to leadership, service, and financial development, Taylor has had a distinguished career at properties from high-end chains such as the Four Seasons to distinctive boutique hotels with strong local roots. He will be overseeing the restoration of The Clift and will assist in helping it achieve a broader appeal after the planned renovations are complete. ”We are beyond pleased to welcome Euan to the family,” states Simon Rusconi, Vice President of Operations at Sonesta Hotels. “He brings the highest level of expertise in every facet of the hospitality business and the broadest possible skill set to the re-birth of one of the most beloved hotels in the world.”
The Scottish-born Taylor, who is fluent in French, started his career in the Alps and in the Champagne region of France. He then worked with five different Four Seasons properties, moving his way up the ladder. It was here he began to hone his philosophy of excellence in service.
From there he went on to work at the Turnberry in Scotland and the Saint Regis in Laguna Niguel (both of which were Starwood properties at the time). At these hotels he learned extensively about the business side of hospitality and acquired his financial acumen.
Taylor oversaw brand transitions at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa (formerly a Fairmont property) and the previously independent JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London. These experiences helped him develop his skills in the realm of brand transitions.
In order to explore the world of lifestyle hotels and bring his luxury service chops and financial know-how to distinctive smaller properties, he decided to tackle a new territory – California – and accepted positions with Hotel Vitale, Hotel Shattuck Plaza and Cavallo Point. At all three properties, he excelled at creating a narrative for the guests.
Most recently Euan spent four years in New Zealand, managing three Super Lodges owned by Hedge Fund founder and philanthropist Julian Robertson, before joining The Clift in 2019.
Born in Edinburgh, Taylor was educated at Cambridge and later received his Hotel Management Degree from Middlesex University. He is a keen sailor who crewed on France’s boat in the 2013 Louis Vuitton Cup. In his spare time he loves to hike the Golden Gate National Recreation Area with his border collies and his wife Jennifer.
