MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 13, 2019—Kemmons Wilson Companies along with Henry Turley Company announced today plans to open The Central Station, a 123-room boutique hotel in Memphis’ iconic South Main District. The neighborhood’s 105-year-old renowned transportation hub transformed into Memphis’ newest boutique hotel, The Central Station, part of Curio Collection by Hilton™, will open doors in Fall 2019. The hotel will feature mid-century architectural design, a stunning community style restaurant and bar, world-class curated music experience, diverse meeting room spaces, and captivating local art.
Originally built in 1914 as a transit hub, The Central Station draws its historic charm from South Main’s distinct architecture, unique history and community spirit. The boutique hotel features eight floors of elegant guest rooms, including nine suites, that evoke the essence of Memphis’ rich hues through the color scheme, design elements and various interactive experiences. The rooms will showcase stunning views of the Mississippi river and Memphis, and feature one-of-a-kind photographs from local artist, Jamie Harmon, and EgglestonWorks speakers designed by Memphis-based audio designer, Jim Thompson, which will play curated music in each guest room.
Music will play a vital role in the guest experience at The Central Station. The hotel will be known for its Listening Lounge/Bar—name to be announced at a later date—which will host an expansive collection of curated vinyl records. The hotel’s intimate Listening Room will showcase the legendary craftsmanship of Memphis-based EgglestonWorks speakers, and provide both guests and locals with a world-class audio experience. Additional amenities will include a fully equipped fitness center, over 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and 3,750 square feet of retail space.
“The Central Station has an incredibly rich and nuanced history in South Main and, on a larger scale, in Memphis, and we are proud to continue honoring the historical landmark’s legacy,” said McLean T. Wilson, Owner and Developer of The Central Station. “The hotel will incorporate the property’s history through eclectic, art-focused design and decor, a world-class music experience and real, honest food. We wanted to showcase quintessential Memphis, and as a result, we endeavored to ensure that guests staying at the hotel have no-doubt they’re in Memphis, have no-doubt they’re in South Main and have no-doubt they’re at The Central Station.”
The Central Station Hotel will be managed and operated by Valor Hospitality.
The Central Station will be located in the heart of the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, award-winning restaurants, historical landmarks, and a robust art scene, at 545 S Main Street, Memphis, Tenn.
