June 29, 2021 – Kirkwood Collection, a leader in the luxury boutique hotel space, announces the recent acquisition of Seven Gables Inn on Monterey Bay, expanding its portfolio to six properties. Building on Kirkwood’s reputation of blending timeless architecture with unforgettable guest experiences, Seven Gables Inn joins the Kirkwood Family of owned and operated design-driven hotels.
This recent acquisition follows Kirkwood Collection’s successful addition and renovation of Garden Street Inn in San Luis Obispo and continues their expansion into California’s premier vacation destinations – including Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs.
Seven Gables Inn was built in 1886 as one of a parade of stately Victorian mansions located along the oceanfront of the Monterey Peninsula. In 1982, the Flatley family reimagined the mansion into a luxury inn. Over the decades, the Flatley’s acquired adjacent parcels growing the hotel to 25-keys, including two guest cottages consisting of multi-bedroom suites, all with unobstructed ocean views and coastal mountain views beyond. The hotel has repeatedly won accolades as one of the top 10 most romantic inns in America.
“Seven Gables Inn is a hallmark addition to our portfolio,” says Kirkwood Collection CEO, Alex Kirkwood. “Our robust following of sophisticated travelers will be stunned by the majestic views from the property. We look forward to welcoming to the Kirkwood Family of hotels the existing guestbook the Flatley’s have curated over four decades.”
Kirkwood Collection maintains the timeless character of each property acquired while delivering uniformly exceptional amenities and first-rate guest experiences. Kirkwood adds, “Travelers have come to love the luxurious home away from home experience found at each of our hotels and Seven Gables Inn is superbly poised to build upon this growing legacy.”
Sellers Susan Flatley Wheelwright and Ed Flatley commented, “It has been our most earnest wish and prayer for several years that the next owner of Seven Gables would not just look at it as a lovely property on the ocean, but truly appreciate the architecture and history of Seven Gables and Pacific Grove and sincerely wish to continue the legacy of respect for history and standard of hospitality that we have worked every day to provide. We feel Alex and his team will do this, allowing us to retire with confidence that all is left in good hands.”
“On behalf of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, I want to thank the Flatley family for their contributions to the city, chamber and community. They have been amazing business owners and operators for the past 39 years and have constantly put Pacific Grove on the map by running the best lodging establishment on the Central Coast. I am excited and happy that Seven Gables will be in good hands under the leadership of Alex Kirkwood. The Kirkwood Collection has all the components necessary to continue the legacy of Seven Gables and will be a great neighbor in town,” adds Moe Ammar, President of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce.
