WASHINGTON – November 19, 2021 – American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) President and CEO Chip Rogers released the below statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act.

“Hotel employees have suffered significantly for almost two years. The current unemployment rate in our industry is more than twice the national average. What is most needed now, is support for hotel employees in the form of the Save Hotel Jobs Act.

“While the Build Back Better Act has a number of positive policies, including needed provisions to address sustainability, it also contains tax changes that will slow economic recovery for small business hotel operators. Proposed increases in the capital gains tax along with net investment income tax hikes will have a destructive impact on hotel jobs. We urge Congress to help our industry at a time when we are just beginning to recover from the pandemic.”
