“Having first heard of  YOTEL over a decade ago, I was instantly intrigued by the brand’s use of technology and modern, contemporary design to create a hospitality experience unlike any other at the time,” Sommers said. “As the brand’s first-ever transition of an existing hotel, YOTEL Washington DC has already set new industry standards since opening just over a year ago, benefiting from a complete reconstruction of the previous Liaison Washington Capitol Hill.  From the hotel crew to the talented restaurant staff, I’m excited to be part of the awesome team and look forward to accomplishing future milestones together.”

Prior to joining YOTEL Washington DC, Sommers served as general manager of Capitol Hill Hotel, where he developed new brand positioning and launched a new guest service training program. He has also overseen hotel operations for MGM Resorts International in National Harbor, MD and Las Vegas and served in a variety of roles for luxury brands and properties such as Salamander Resort & Spa, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, and Monte Carlo Resort and Casino (now Park MGM) in Las Vegas.

Although he moved with his wife of 15 years to Washington DC in 2016, he is still a self-proclaimed die-hard fan of the Calgary Flames. Sommers is also a movie buff and avid reader of the Harry Potter series. Fred and George Weasley are his favorite characters.

As the brand’s fifth hotel in the US, YOTEL Washington DC boasts a location closer than any other hotel to Capitol Hill. YOTEL has 20 hotels in operation worldwide, from San Francisco to New York, Amsterdam to Istanbul, and all the way to Singapore.
