Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in March 2022:

International Arrivals to the United States

  • Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume to the United States of 3,244,404 increased 205.3% from March 2021 but was 51.8% of total visitor volume in March 2019.
  • Overseas visitor volume to the United States of 1,379,766 increased 263.3% from March 2021.
  • March 2022 was the twelfth consecutive month that total non-U.S. resident international arrivals to the United States increased on a year-over-year basis.
  • The largest numbers of international visitors were from Canada (947,799), Mexico (916,839), United Kingdom (220,692), Germany (87,609) and Brazil (78,787). Combined, these top 5 inbound markets accounted for 69.4% of total international arrivals.
  • Visitation from Canada (947,799) surpassed visitation from Mexico (916,839) for the first since March 2020.

International Departures from the United States

  • Total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States of 4,265,343 increased 112% compared to February 2021 but were 67% of total departures in pre-pandemic February 2019.
  • February 2022 was the twelfth consecutive month that total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States increased on a year-over-year basis.
  • Mexico recorded the largest outbound visitor volume of 2,322,498 (54.5% of total departures). Compared to other international regions, Canada (1021% YOY) recorded the largest percentage increase
  • Combined year-to-date (YTD), Mexico (4,687,434) and the Caribbean (1,136,868) accounted for 69.2% of total U.S. citizen international visitor departures.
  • Europe YTD (736,265) increased 390% YOY, accounting for 8.9% of all departures. This was up from 3.4% share in 2021 February YTD.
