CHARLESTON, SC – November 7, 2022 – On Friday, November 4, Lowe and BL Harbert International celebrated the topping out of The Cooper, downtown Charleston’s anticipated new full-service waterfront hotel. The event was attended by the project teams working on the construction of the hotel at an on-site luncheon where partners signed a ceremonial beam signifying the completion of vertical construction. Located at 176 Concord Street adjacent to Joe Riley Waterfront Park, The Cooper Hotel will set a new standard for hospitality excellence in Charleston.

Overlooking the Cooper River, the hotel draws its design inspiration from its French Quarter surroundings, from the material selection to the window proportions to the detailing of the operable shutters. The south façade facing the park recalls the stacked porches of the stately homes along the Battery. In addition to 12,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space on Concord Street, The Cooper will also include a 7,000-square-foot full-service spa and fitness center, nearly 20,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor event space and an outdoor infinity-edge resort pool with views of the harbor and the historic downtown skyline.
The Cooper will also feature extensive food and beverage offerings, including a waterfront cafe, a rooftop lounge with a dedicated public elevator from the park, a ground floor casual outlet and a signature restaurant offering commanding water views.
In conjunction with the hotel’s amenities, Lowe is working with the City of Charleston to extend Joe Riley Waterfront Park by more than 400 feet, starting at the park’s north entrance on Concord Street and ending at Cumberland Street.
McMillan Pazdan Smith and Robert Glazier served as the architects for the hotel. Interior design was handled by Champalimaud Design and landscape architecture by DesignWorks.
