Alexandria, Virginia (November 9, 2023) – The Alexandrian, in Old Town Alexandria and sister property, Morrison House, have announced the appointment of Tobias Arff as General Manager. With over two decades of success managing luxury properties for sizable hotel brands, Arff will oversee all operations of the historic addresses in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, including inspiring the hotel teams to enhance guest experiences to create memorable and immersive stays.
The Alexandrian emulates the history of Old Town Alexandria with modern and playful design elements, boasting 241 guestrooms, a 24-hour fitness center, 9,000 sq. ft. of event space, and the hotel’s Southern-inspired restaurant, King & Rye, led by Chef Tomas Chavarria, known for seasonal food, genuine southern hospitality and fine whiskey. Sister property, Morrison House, is a boutique lifestyle property known for its elegance and tasteful nods to literature in design, with 45 guestrooms, a parlor and library, 2,000 sq. ft. of literary-inspired meeting space, and an emphasis on southern charm and curated comfort. Well-loved by locals and visitors, its sophisticated restaurant, The Study, offers Modern American cuisine and inventive craft cocktails in an intimate setting.
Arff arrived at The Alexandrian and Morrison House from Hotel Madera, a Pivot Hotels & Resorts property in Washington, DC, where he spent the past three years as the leader of a full renovation, in addition to repositioning the property as a high-performing independent asset. His efforts resulted in Hotel Madera’s net operating income surpassing expectations in 2022 and they are on track to do so again this year.
“I couldn’t be more excited to bring my passion for hospitality and years of luxury hotel expertise to The Alexandrian at the perfect time to launch the property’s recently renovated meeting spaces and ballroom,” says Arff. “I’m looking forward to what’s to come for The Alexandrian and Morrison House in 2024. With our meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to unparalleled guest experiences, we are poised to redefine the standard of opulence in the hospitality industry next year.”
Born, raised, and schooled in Bremen, Germany, Arff earned a Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from Hotel Management College Am Rübekamp. Arff’s career got off to a fast start, with time in various management positions at the Five-Star/Five-Diamond Park Hotel Bremen, the Independent Hay Adams Hotel, and The Ritz-Carlton, all in Washington, D.C. He also ranked highly at several Kimpton Hotels in Alexandria, including as General Manager of both Lorien Hotel & Spa, Assistant General Manager of Monaco Alexandria, and Front Office Manager of Hotel Palomar.
Throughout his time in Alexandria, Arff has been highly involved with the community, holding positions as Chairman of the Board of the Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association, as well as Chairman of the Alexandria Hotel Association.
