July 06–After months of renovations, the new Harlan Comfort Inn welcomes visitors with a more customer-friendly interior and exterior, along with all new rooms and lobby.

“The transition to Comfort Inn actually became official on June 10,” said General Manager and motel adviser Alonzo York. “As Comfort Inn we are still offering the same hospitality we have always offered, but we now have a better product.”

York said an extensive amount of money has been spent on renovations at the Inn. He said every room has been completed renovated “from top to bottom.”

“The lobby has been remodeled from top to bottom,” said York. “We have reconditioned our pool, so we now have a new indoor pool to offer. We have installed an elevator and on the outside, we resealed the parking lot and repainted the building. In addition to all of that, we still have our management core, operations director Marilyn Whitehead, of Evarts, and front office supervisor Carolyn Slusher, of Wallins, who has been with the motel since it opened 20 years ago. Our management team is still offering the same hospitality we have always offered, but we now have a better product.”

The Harlan Comfort Inn has a total of 62 rooms, which includes spa rooms, king suites for corporate travelers and family-friendly rooms, which offer two beds and a couch that pulls out to an extra bed if needed. York said the rooms offer ironing boards and irons for the customer’s convenience and a free continental breakfast.

“It’s a full breakfast for our customers,” said York. “It includes items such as omelets, waffles, pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits, ham, all your juices, milk, danish, cereal — if you leave hungry it’s your own fault,” said York. “We have a small conference room, which we call the Harlan Great Room, where we serve breakfast, but after 10:30 a.m. it’s available for conferences, small meetings, showers and things such as that to the public. We have plenty of parking. We do our own security, but we also have the protection of the Harlan City Police Department, who drive through on a regular basis throughout the night. We’re very safe. It’s a great place to stay.”
