July 19–Hotel owners Brian and Vibha Patel still plan to build a Hampton Inn in Fergus Falls, even though the project hasn’t gotten off the ground yet.
“It’s going to be delayed a couple months,” Brian Patel said.
Owners of 14 Hampton Inn hotels across the Midwest, the Patels last fall purchased the lots along Western Avenue on the west side of Fergus Falls near Interstate 94. In October, Brian Patel said he hoped construction would begin in March.
Instead, the Patels were focused on building a $6.5 million Hampton Inn and Suites in Jamestown, N.D. It’s a facility which includes 90 rooms ranging from suites to smaller single rooms, according to a story in the Jamestown Sun. That project was just completed.
“We are opening today (Thursday),” Brian Patel said.
They wanted to see how the one in Jamestown worked first before moving on to building in Fergus Falls, which is still the plan, Brian Patel said. However, he added that it will probably be a couple of more months before they have plans ready and obtain a building permit.
Brian Patel said last October that he chose to build a Hampton Inn due to the proximity to Fargo, where he and his wife reside, and the fact that Fergus Falls is a smaller community, which fits with other hotels they own.
The Hampton Inn would be the first new hotel in Fergus Falls since the AmericInn was constructed in 1995.
