July 19–BLAINE — The new owners of the Semiahmoo Resort are hoping to open the hotel and a restaurant on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Coastal Hotel Group, which is managing the resort’s operations, is busy readying the hotel, including ordering new mattresses, landscaping, fixing leaks and painting, said Jerry Anches, a partner in Resort Semiahmoo.
“There’s a lot of work to be done, but we really want to be open for the community this summer,” Anches said.
Along with the hotel, the plan is to have Packers restaurant open on Aug. 15. Packers will have a new menu and be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, said Yogi Hutsen, president and CEO of Coastal Hotel Group. The menu will focus on local products with a farm-to-table focus, he said.
The restaurant space known as Stars will remain closed for now as the group evaluates what to do with that space.
The resort was purchased on June 21 for $19.5 million, with Wright Hotels Inc. of Seattle as the managing member. The hotel and restaurants had been shut down in December 2012 by the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, the previous majority owner.
The resort’s two golf courses, Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club and Loomis Trail, have remained opened.
Coastal is in the process of hiring back staff. A job fair is scheduled for 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the hotel.
Hutsen said they plan on doing a more substantial remodel in the winter months.
