Sept. 21–A Columbus hotel developer has acquired the Grandview Heights-area property in which Cap City Fine Diner & Bar has operated for nearly two decades, hoping one day to incorporate the restaurant with a hotel there.

The property at 1299 Olentangy River Rd., which includes a medical building, was purchased a week ago by Cap City Hotels LLC for $3.9 million, according to the Franklin County auditor.

Cap City Hotels is a subsidiary of Indus Hotels, which owns several hotels that serve visitors to Ohio State University and its medical campus.

David Patel, president of Indus Hotels, said he is a fan of Cameron Mitchell restaurants. “I eat there at least twice a week,” he said.

Patel eventually plans to build a hotel that includes the Cap City Fine Diner on the property, but that likely won’t happen until at least 2017, after leases on the medical building offices expire, he said.

Columbus restaurant entrepreneur Cameron Mitchell has leased the property for the restaurant for 18 years. Mitchell’s company operates a second Cap City Fine Diner location in Gahanna.

“Cap City Fine Diner & Bar has been a proud partner within the Grandview community since 1995, and we plan to remain in this development for many years to come,” said David Miller, executive vice president and operating partner of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, in an emailed statement.

“We have a lease through 2020 and plan to work with Indus Hotels to develop the hotel and the restaurant,” Miller said.

Indus Hotels owns and operates seven hotels, including the Hampton Inn & Suites in the Short North, as well as the Hilton Garden Inn and two Varsity Inns near OSU.

The company acquired the University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center from the university in 2008 for about

$9 million and is trying to raise the capital to renovate the

240-room project, Patel said.
