Nov. 11–The Charmant Hotel will be the name of the Don and Roxanne Weber family’s luxury boutique hotel slated to open at the end of 2014 in the former Joseph B. Funke Candy Co. factory building at 101 State St. in downtown La Crosse.
The name was announced today by Aparium Hotel Group, a Chicago-based company that will manage the independent hotel. Aparium also is involved in planning for the hotel, along with Simeone Deary Design Group in Chicago and The Kubala Washatko Architects in Cedarburg, Wis.
The 71-room, five-story property will open after a more than $23 million renovation and restoration project, and will employ more than 100 people after it opens, Aparium said.
Aparium said the hotel will include a restaurant with outdoor seating, a lounge and rooftop bar, as well as event space for meetings and corporate gatherings. The restaurant will use local ingredients and feature regional new American cuisine based on classic French technique, Aparium said.
“Charmant” means “charming” in French and also refers to the name of the premium line of chocolates once sold by Funke Candy, Aparium said.
