(CHICAGO, IL; January 14, 2015) – Oxford Capital Group, LLC announced today plans to open The Godfrey Hotel, Boston (505 Washington Street) in the fall of 2015. The Godfrey Hotel, Oxford’s newest independent lifestyle property, features 242 stylish guestrooms. With a name that means “peace and welcome,” the hotel is emerging in the historic Amory and Blake buildings in Boston’s Downtown Crossing neighborhood.
“We’re excited about this unique project and believe that The Godfrey Hotel-Boston will become an instant magnet for an entire spectrum of travelers. This is due to its prominent location, distinctive architecture, compelling interior design, host of amenities, and most importantly, an extremely high-touch, customer-friendly service ethic,” says John W. Rutledge, founder and president of Oxford Capital Group, LLC, the Chicago-based developer, and its operating affiliate, Oxford Hotels and Resorts, LLC. “We are particularly happy to be transforming the historic Amory and Blake buildings. In doing so, we’re happy to be contributing to the dramatic resurgence of Boston’s Downtown Crossing neighborhood,” he adds.
In addition to being within walking distance of Boston Common and a number of shopping destinations, guests are invited to “Discover Your Element” – the hotel brand’s theme that encourages visitors to discover an element of the hotel that best suits their personalized needs – and enjoy a number of the hotel’s amenities including: a soon to be announced chef-driven restaurant and distinctive local coffee house; lobby bar; 24-hour fitness center; complimentary Wi-Fi; and state-of-the-art-digital technology.
“We’ve been warmly greeted to town by our neighbors, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, our partners in the Downtown Boston Improvement District (BID), and the entire Boston community,” said Brad Mulvihill, Principal at Oxford Capital Group, LLC. “We look forward to providing Boston with a hotel they can be excited about.”
The Godfrey Hotel-Boston will feature an iconic pre-war brick and stone façade and interior design that properly pays nod to the region’s heritage, while maintaining alignment with the sophisticated style that guests have come to expect from The Godfrey Hotel brand. The interiors, designed by The Gettys Group will offer a calming oasis amid a vibrant, urban scene. Guests will be greeted by a spacious lobby, complimented with intimate seating for daytime relaxation or evening socializing. Cerused oak paneling, polished porcelain flooring and contemporary furniture will provide a contrast to the restored ornate exterior façade. A dramatic portal will act as a transition between the clean lines of the reception and the intricately-detailed historic elevator lobby.
Guestrooms will feature a sophisticated air that will appeal to the world traveler. A refined color palette of warm grays, accented by natural walnut, will act as a tranquil envelop with dashes of color. Custom carpeting, quality bedding and upholstered seating will evoke the refinement and comfort of a well-tailored suit. Large windows will flood guestrooms with natural light and rooms with original bay windows will provide an added, dramatic view to the bustling street scene below.
George Jordan, Senior Vice President, Oxford Hotels & Resorts, remarked, “Understanding that the word Godfrey translates loosely from Old European languages to “peace and welcome”, we look forward to soon greeting guests by saying ‘Godfrey to the Godfrey (Boston).”
