KEY LARGO, FL – February 2014 – Playa Largo Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Calibo as its director of sales & marketing. As a seasoned hotel industry professional, Calibo brings extensive senior management experience to the first new resort to be built in Key Largo in more than 20 years, opening in December 2015.
Calibo comes to Playa Largo after nearly four years as opening director of sales & marketing at the DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport & Convention Center where his efforts to launch Miami’s second largest convention center and the creation of the Miami Airport Hotels Alliance led to multiple accolades, including the award for Most Improved Market Share Sales from DoubleTree Hilton in 2011.
Calibo’s experience opening both branded luxury hotels and independent boutique properties has allowed him to develop a wide range of sales and marketing expertise that will serve him well in his new role. Prior to the DoubleTree by Hilton in Miami, Calibo served as the associate director of sales at the Hyatt Regency in Miami and was the director of sales and marketing during the opening of The Shore Club in Miami Beach.
In his new role at Playa Largo, Calibo will be responsible for all hotel sales, marketing and revenue strategies, leading staff marketing and communications activities, and maximizing revenue generation for the property.
“I’m honored to be a part of the development of this new property alongside Prime Hospitality Group and Shaner Hotels, two industry veterans whose vision for Playa Largo coincides with my strengths and experience,” said Calibo. “I’m looking forward to leading a stellar sales team and telling the story of this remarkable new luxury resort that’s coming to the Keys.”
“We are very pleased to welcome Mark Calibo as part of the Playa Largo executive team,” said Shakir Hussain, general manager of Playa Largo Resort & Spa. “Given his success in sales strategies for both new and existing hotel properties, and his unparalleled understanding of this industry, he will be instrumental to the success of this new resort.”
Calibo received his degree in Hospitality Management from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
