INDIANAPOLIS, May 26, 2016 – Indy 500 fans who haven’t yet secured a place to stay during race weekend can expect some major price hikes at the hotel check-in desk. The latest survey from CheapHotels.org found that Indianapolis hotels have raised their rates by triple- and in some cases quadruple-digit percentages in anticipation of the 100th running of the popular auto race. The survey specifically found that fewer than one in 10 Indianapolis hotels still have vacancies this May 27 to May 30—the dates surrounding and inclusive of the big race. Because of the limited supply, those that do still have available rooms are increasing their rates by an average of 222% over the typical cost. A select few establishments in the Crossroads of America, however, are elevating their price tags by substantially more. (see table below) According to Barbara Adams of CheapHotels.org, with the exception of Super Bowl 2012 in Indianapolis, hotels have never been so expensive in the history of the city. For the most affordable hotel room in central Indianapolis, an overnight guest will currently have to spend $499, or almost $1500 for the three-day race weekend. More affordable rooms can be found around the Indianapolis Airport or in the suburban towns of Greenwood and Martinsville. There, travelers to the city can still find rooms from between $200 and $250 per night. The table that follows lists the hotels in Indianapolis with the highest price hikes for this year's Indy 500 weekend. The prices displayed reflect the nightly rates for the period of May 27 to 30, regular prices reflect rates for the same room two weeks later.
