Oct. 12–Conde Nast Traveler readers picked the best hotels in the U.S., giving the top spot to the historic and recently reopened Sagamore Pendry Baltimore.
The results of 429,000 traveler surveys were released Tuesday. One California hotel made the Readers' Choice Awards top 10 list: the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills
How affordable are these favorite places to stay? It depends on your travel budget and when you visit. Some may be within reach; others will always be a splurge.
Here's what the top 10 will set you back if you want to visit over Veterans Day, which falls on Nov. 11 and is observed on Nov. 12 this year.
1. Sagamore Pendry Baltimore
The hotel started life as a landmark pier built in 1914 as a $1-million Baltimore city project. Fast forward to March 2017 when, after a century of random uses and a massive restoration, it opened as a Pendry, a spinoff brand from Montage resorts. Rooms are in a new-build part of the pier, making for "supremely comfortable guest rooms," according to Conde Nast Traveler's website.
Price: I found a Deluxe Courtyard room with a private balcony and king-sized bed available for $331 (21-day advance purchase rate) a night for Nov. 10 and 11. I also found a $305 advance purchase price available on weekends in April.

2. XV Beacon
This Boston hotel also is housed in a historic building, a 10-story Beaux Arts beauty that's been outfitted with chic interiors. The 63 rooms come with "fireplaces, mahogany built-in cupboards and contemporary canopied beds," the magazine wrote. And you can take a free spin in a chauffeured Lexus too.
Price: An Executive Classic room with a queen four-poster bed and fireplace costs $442 a night on Nov. 10 and 11. It also is an advance purchase rate.

3. The Chatwal New York
For New York City, readers picked a historic redo of an Art Deco building in Midtown, the one-time Lambs Club in the theater district. Small by New York standards, the hotel has just 76 rooms with a "travel's bygone era" vibe. There's also an underground spa and a small gym and lap pool.
Price: A Superior room with a queen-sized bed costs $620 (flexible rate) a night on Nov. 10 and 11. SPG loyalty program members pay $589 for the same room.

4. Dunton Town House
The hotel in Telluride, Colo., is a small B&B-type facility that hosts just 10 guests. The inside "whisks you away to the Tyrol," the magazine wrote, meaning it's decorated with "Austrian fabrics and hand-carved wooden antiques." For those who love the outdoors, there's a mud room to leave your boots, and you're plenty close to the nearby ski resort's gondola.
Price: The Auerhahn room with one king-sized bed and a fireplace goes for $350 a night on Nov. 10 and 11.

5. Faena Hotel
The Miami Beach hotel sits on a private beach and displays a Damien Hirst golden mammoth skeleton in a cage (artwork). Conde Nast Traveler describes the hotel as having "a bit of an 'Alice in Wonderland' feel."
Price: I found a Bayview room with a king-sized bed available for $425 a night Nov. 11 and 12 (Nov. 10 is fully booked).

6. Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills
In this hotel, every room has a view — and floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony. The building with 12 stories at the intersection of Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards in Beverly Hills also features big rooms and Art Deco interiors by Pierre-Yves Rochon.
Price: I found a Superior room with a king-sized bed available Nov. 10 and 11 for the flexible-rate price of $755 a night. Hilton Honors members will find discounts.

7. 1 Hotel South Beach
The Miami Beach hotel is all about being real. It's made from reclaimed materials and has organic cotton mattresses and sheets in the rooms. If the 600-foot private beach doesn't wow you, maybe some of the activities will: They include "sunset meditation and terrarium-building workshops," the magazine wrote.
Price: A 700-square-foot room with a king-sized bed goes for $575 a night for Nov. 10 and 11 if you book early; $709 if you wait.

8. The Hermosa Inn
Though this sounds like a Southern California hotel, it's in Paradise Valley, Ariz., near Scottsdale. Cowboy artist Lon Megargee created the place for him and his friends in the 1930s. Now the 43 rooms and casitas keep up the Southwestern tradition, all within the foothills of Camelback Mountain.
Price: I found a Rancho room with a king-sized bed and fireplace for $313 a night for Nov. 11 and 12. (Nov. 10 was sold out).

9. Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt
Austin, Texas, is all about its music scene — and this Kimpton-branded hotel promises a "front-row seat to all the action," according to its website. It's named for country singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt and has "chandeliers made from French horns [and] a lobby bar record player that pipes tunes into the elevators," Conde Nast Traveler wrote. Rooms come with views of the city or of Lady Bird Lake.
Price: A Lake View Deluxe room with a king-sized bed costs $389 a night (flexible rate) on Nov. 10 and 11.

10. The Viceroy Chicago
Chicago came in as the best city in the U.S. in the Readers' Choice Awards. Only one of its hotels made the top 10 list, the 180-room Viceroy Chicago. The magazine describes its style this way: "The contemporary-chic Viceroy has a retro Chicago facade and mid-century furnishings within." The restaurant Somerset, from chef Lee Wolen, gets high marks too.
