Dec. 17--Veteran hotelier Laurence Geller has closed a deal to turn a 224,000-square-foot Near North office building at 101 E. Erie St. into a luxury hotel. Geller, former chief of Strategic Hotels & Resorts, has joined with Wanxiang America Real Estate Group, the U.S.-based arm of the Chinese auto parts manufacturer, to develop a 290-room hotel, reportedly under the Conrad hotel brand. It would be the second Conrad hotel within four blocks -- there is a Conrad just off Michigan Avenue, at Rush and Illinois streets. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2015. Sam Nazarian Loses Control of SLS Las Vegas Hotel after Embarrassing Past Surfaces

Dec. 17--Los Angeles nightclub mogul Sam Nazarian has relinquished control of his newest hotel in Las Vegas after a gaming license investigation disclosed he used drugs and paid nearly $3 million to a convicted felon. Nazarian and Stockbridge Capital, the majority owner of the SLS Las Vegas, announced Tuesday that Nazarian has turned over control of the hotel to President and Chief Operating Officer Scott Kreeger. Kreeger will report directly to Terry Fancher, executive managing director of Stockbridge Capital, which owns a 90% stake in the hotel. Garrison Investment Group Acquires 15 Hotels in PA & WV from Kratsa Properties

Dec. 17--A New York investment company has bought 15 hotels in Pennsylvania and West Virginia from a Harmar developer. Garrison Investment Group did not disclose terms of the deal with Harmar's Kratsa Properties, which had owned and managed 12 hotels in Allegheny County and one each in Washington County, Westmoreland County and Wheeling. Dallas-based Aimbridge Hospitality, a minority partner in the deal, will manage the hotels for Garrison. Dec. 17--Chicago officials are expected to announce this week that a Chinese developer is moving ahead with plans for an 89-story riverfront residential and hotel tower, to be designed by Chicago architect Jeanne Gang, according to sources close to the deal. Beijing-based Wanda Group reportedly plans to invest $900 million in the project, which is likely to house an ultra-luxurious hotel, insiders say. Dec. 17--William McBeath, a former MGM Resorts International executive, is the next chief executive officer of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The resort announced McBeath's appointment in a statement today, about a week after it revealed that inaugural CEO John Unwin would leave at the at the end of the year. McBeath will take over after the Cosmopolitan's $1.73 billion sale to an affiliate of private equity firm Blackstone Group is complete.
