April 29--ROLAND -- At least 100 new permanent jobs will be the result of a new Cherokee Casino & Hotel being built at Roland. The $80 million casino and hotel project will more than triple the size of the current 50,000-square-foot casino near State Highway 64 and Interstate 40 and will bring the number of casino jobs up to 420. The planned six-story casino and resort-style hotel will offer 120 rooms and 850 electronic games. The expected completion date for the Roland casino is May 2015 and the hotel should be complete by August 2015. The two combined properties will be about 170,000 square feet. April 29--Veteran Charlotte real estate developers Allen Tate Jr. and John Crosland Jr. announced Tuesday that they are working on a new hotel project with up to 300 rooms on a parcel just behind Sharon Corners Shopping Center. The two long-time developers will build on 3.65 acres on Sharon Road, just south of Fairview Road. April 28--To expand capacity of a proposed Shanghai Disney Resort, Walt Disney Co. and its partners in China have agreed to add an extra $800 million to the park's $4-billion price tag. The project, slated to open Dec. 31, 2015, was already expected to be Disney's second-largest park, behind its massive resort in Orlando, Fla. April 26--GULFPORT -- The city's retail corridor is quietly expanding westward with development of 80-acre Anchor Plaza north of Interstate 10 and west of U.S. 49. Anchor Plaza will have four hotels, with plans for six restaurants and 120,000 square feet of retail, said developer John Tampa, president and CEO of Georgia-based Ascent Hospitality. "There's a lot of growth on the Coast, especially after Hurricane Katrina," Tampa said. "At this time, there are not enough (hotel) rooms in the market."
