Multi-Million Dollar Plan to Raze & Recreate Dunedin, FL’s Historic Fenway Hotel is Back on Track

April 23, 2014

April 23--DUNEDIN -- A multimillion dollar plan to raze the historic Fenway Hotel and rebuild it in the same architectural style is back on track after a delay in the property sale killed the project last year. Pennsylvania developer Christy Bower recently submitted new plans for the waterfront lodge on Edgewater Drive that show a hotel virtually identical to the rundown 1920s Mediterranean-style structure currently on the property. The remade Fenway would evoke the same luxury style that first made it a popular winter getaway in the early 20th Century, only with updates to satisfy modern vacationers. For example, the outmoded shared wa

Lake County, Florida OKs 100-unit Lodge at Bella Collina, a Community Development Near Montverde

April 23, 2014

April 23--TAVARES -- With its Tuscan-inspired facilities, the Bella Collina luxury development near Montverde has become a popular place for couples to tie the knot. "This has become quite the destination for weddings," Miranda Fitzgerald, an attorney representing Bella Collina's owner, told county commissioners this week. But she said Lake is missing out on revenue as wedding guests often stay at upscale Orlando hotels. Fitzgerald argued that a 100-unit lodge would fill the void and bring tax dollars to the county. She said units would be individually owned but available for short-term rental, for example, by wedding guests and visitor

Lacking Sufficient Lodging, Los Angeles’ Tourism Growth is Losing Ground to Rival Cities

April 23, 2014

April 23--In the battle for tourists, Los Angeles is losing ground to rivals Orlando, Fla., New York, and Chicago. L.A. But L.A.'s tourist numbers are not growing fast enough to keep up with the nation's top three destinations, primarily because the city lacks enough hotel rooms to host more tourists. "We have an awful lot of things that are in our favor," said Robert Kleinhenz, chief economist at the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. "But one big constraint I'

Developer of Stalled 50-key Oceana Water Resort Says On-the-Water Project Still a Go in Florida

April 23, 2014

April 23--An attempt to place a 50-room hotel in the Gulf of Mexico could pick up pace in coming months, Oceana Water Resort developer Doug Pope says. "The project is absolutely alive," Pope said. "We're still very optimistic." Lack of financing has stalled the estimated $20 million construction for about two years, he said. "Our finance partner just told me that funding could be imminent," Pope said. "But if it doesn't come through, we're prepared to start seeking investors for more traditional funding." Pope's Elevated Waters Resorts firm in Middleburg was told to expect money last year, "but all of a sudden, it did not come through,"
