April 22--WILLIAMSBURG -- As reported by STR, Inc. (formerly Smith Travel Research), March's hotel occupancy numbers in the greater Williamsburg were bad. How bad? "They are dismal," wrote Ron Kirkland, executive director of the Williamsburg Hotel-Motel Association in an e-mail. Occupancy in the Historic Triangle was 35.9 percent in March, off from 42 percent in March, 2013. None of the other hotel numbers were positive either. Average daily room rate was down nearly $10, from $84.31 to $74.97 and revenue per available room was down from $35.38 to $26.91. April 22--Construction workers Friday were busy putting together some of the final pieces to Coconut Creek's first hotel set to open in late spring. From smoothing off the concrete flooring of the lobby's breakfast room to assembling wooden bed frames in rooms and to erecting a pergola garden structure poolside, work is nearing completion on the 105-room Hampton Inn & Suites. April 22--The indicator lights are blinking in favor of the region's hoteliers and innkeepers. The March lodging statistics compiled by Smith Travel Research of Hendersonville, Tenn., showed upticks in every category for Southern Oregon lodging, save for room supply. Better yet, first-quarter 2014 figures were consistently up as well. Occupancy rose 3.1 percent, pushing the locations surveyed by Smith Travel above 50 percent of capacity for March.
