March 13--A group opposing public backing for a hotel at the Oregon Convention Center said they'll take their case for a referendum to a higher court after a Multnomah County judge blocked their efforts. The group of competing hoteliers, including Provenance Hotels and the Portland Hilton and Executive Tower, want voters to have a say on whether hotel lodging taxes can be directed to the project. They've sought a referendum on a Multnomah County board vote that cleared the way. March 13--WEST PALM BEACH -- In the latest sign that Palm Beach County tourism continues to grow, hoteliers should set a new occupancy record for February stays. Tourism Development Council Executive Director Glenn Jergensen said Thursday that projections are on track for a new record of 89.9 percent occupancy in February, because the last three weeks of February were higher than 90 percent. March 13--MGM Resorts International, parent company of the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino in Las Vegas, has agreed to a $500,000 fine after a sting found that an upscale lounge's employees provided drugs and prostitutes to undercover cops in 2012. Nevada state regulators on Wednesday released details of the 2012 undercover sting at the House of Blues Foundation Room, a lounge located on the 43rd floor of the Mandalay Bay. March 11--A new Broad Street hotel will open March 21. Developer T.R. Reddy got approval Tuesday to open the Holiday Inn Express at 444 Broad St. after the hotel's franchise company, IHG, toured the 70,000-square-foot building. It stands on the site of several previous hotels near Gordon Highway. Construction started in March 2013 and was completed about a month behind schedule. Reddy blamed winter weather that hit the area in January and February. The project came in slightly over budget at $8.5 million, Reddy said, but he's optimistic it will succeed.
