Feb. 18--YORK -- The developer of the Marquis shopping center in upper York County wants to build a 100-room hotel. To do so, the Board of Supervisors must amend the existing special-use permit expanding the retail center by 85,000 square feet. The proposal is slated to go before the board Tuesday night. The hotel concept originated in 2007 with a previous developer of the center, according to a documents filed by the county planning department. GM of The Westin Tokyo Sees Positive Consumer Sentiment with Disaster Behind and 2020 Olympics Ahead
February 18, 2014
Feb. 18--The Westin Tokyo is currently enjoying brisk sales and expects business to continue to thrive as consumers presently have a propensity to spend money on luxurious food and accommodations, the hotel's general manager said recently. "I believe consumers are showing a more positive attitude toward spending money as they want satisfying experiences, rather than giving into depressing news all the time," Dietmar Kielnhofer said. The relatively weak yen and Tokyo's successful bid to host the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics also helped brighten consumer sentiment, prompting The Westin Hotel to have a fantastic year in 2013, he said. February 18, 2014
Feb. 18--An imbalance of hotel demand and supply in major tourist destinations in Asia is creating a problem of unusually high project prices. Chanin Donavanik, chief executive of Dusit International, a local hotel management company, said investment demand in resort or gateway destinations is 20 times higher than supply. Global

Room for Cautious Optimism for Tourism in Barbados?; Jan. ‘14 Saw Modest 3.2% Increase
February 17, 2014
Feb. 17--Is there some room for cautious optimism in Barbados's tourism performance? Following 21 consecutive months of long stay visitor decline, January 2014 recorded a modest increase of 3.2 percent when compared with the same month in 2013. It is however important to keep this in absolute perspective.
