Feb. 05--ROCKLAND, Maine -- A local businessman has proposed building a $6.5 million 65-room classic old New England hotel on the city's waterfront. Stuart Smith of Rockland Harbor Park LLC submitted plans this week to the city's code enforcement office. Those plans will be reviewed by the Rockland Planning Board on Feb. 11 at a pre-application meeting. The hotel would be located on Ocean Street on land currently occupied by a large gazebo and parking lot adjacent to the Boston Financial Data Services office complex. The announcement arrived today in the form of a banner across the forthcoming resort's website, where SBE Entertainment CEO Sam Nazarian posted a blog item about the opening. Feb. 05--Loews Hotels says it has begun hiring for more than 600 jobs in Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, which will become the theme-park resort's fourth on-site hotel when it opens in the coming weeks. Feb. 05--The Burbank company posted net income of $1.84 billion for the quarter that ended Dec. 28, up from $1.38 billion a year earlier. Revenue rose 9% to $12.31 billion. Feb. 04--SALEM -- The owners of the Salem Waterfront Hotel have filed plans to build a second phase of the Pickering Wharf development. Plans were filed last week for a $12 million project that would include a six-story building along the South River with 32 hotel rooms, 14 residences, a ballroom and conference space, a restaurant with outdoor dining, and a locker room and showers for marina guests. Feb. 04--Some months ago the Barbados Tourism Authority finally published a list of licensed hotels and a limited number of other accommodation providers. Sadly, I only saw it in the press and failed to understand why the agency did not post this latest listing on the official website, where the majority of the end users could access this information at any time, prior to booking. Feb. 04--NEW LONDON -- Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio will issue a formal invitation on Wednesday for developers to bid on the landmark Lighthouse Inn. Interested parties will have until 2 p.m. May 28 to prepare and submit final bids to buy the 4.2-acre Guthrie Place property, which failed to garner any bids during a property-tax sale last June that asked for a minimum of $577,721 -- enough to recoup unpaid taxes and fees.
