Jan. 30--Abu Dhabi?s 150 hotels and hotel apartments showed an 18 per cent rise in guest numbers in 2012, beating annual target of 2.5 million. The hotel industry had its best year yet in terms of guest arrivals, guest nights, length-of-stay and revenues, according to figures released by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi). The latest data showed that last year 2,806,283 guests checked into the emirate's 150 hotels and hotel apartments -- a rise of 18 per cent on 2012 and beating the authority's annual target of 2.5 million. Jan. 30--BERKELEY -- The Claremont Hotel Club and Spa in the Oakland-Berkeley hills is being eyed for purchase by the hotel group that owns the iconic Fairmont hotels in San Francisco, San Jose and Banff and the landmark Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, hotel industry sources said Wednesday. Executives with the Claremont Hotel and its Boston-based manager, Pyramid Hotel Group, didn't return phone calls. Canada-based FRHI Hotels & Resorts, owner of the Fairmont hotels, provided only a brief comment about a pending purchase of the Claremont. "FRHI Hotels & Resorts does not comment on rumor or speculation," said Mike Taylor, a spokesman.
Construction Set to Begin on New LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Tumwater, WA

Jan. 30--Construction will begin next month in Tumwater on a new LaQuinta Inn & Suites, the Ridgefield, Wash.-based contractor, Construct One LLC, announced this week. The 80-unit, 4-story hotel will rise from the ground at 4600 Capitol Boulevard S.E., just north of the State Farm building. The project also is near Linwood Avenue. Construct One recently completed a hotel addition for the Best Western in Ephrata, interior renovations for the Holiday Inn Express in Bothell and currently is renovating five corporate owned Red Lion Hotels throughout the state. Jan. 30--Hawaii's visitor industry set year-end records for visitor spending and arrivals in 2013: however, a leveling off of growth in the second half of the year caused tourism to fall short of its targeted expectations. Nearly 8.24 million travelers came to Hawaii in 2013 surpassing the 2012 record of nearly 8.03 million visitors by 2.6 percent, according to preliminary statistics released today by the Hawaii Tourism Authority. Retro Feel to Dominate Universal’s New Cabana Bay Hotel in Orlando, Florida

Jan. 30--Universal Orlando is heading back to the future with its under-construction Cabana Bay Beach Resort. The look of the hotel -- the fourth on Universal property -- is inspired by American roadside motels of the 1950s and '60s. As work has progressed, the brightly colored exterior panels of Cabana Bay have become visible to motorists traveling Interstate 4 near the Universal exits. The hotel will open in stages starting in March. Universal is "using architecture to celebrate the era," said Russ Dagon, executive project director, during a recent tour of the site.
