Yet Another New Hotel Proposed for Milwaukee, WI’s Lakefront; Scene of Several Proposed Developments
January 13, 2014
Jan. 13--Another possible hotel project is being contemplated for downtown Milwaukee's lakefront. The hotel, which would have around 200 rooms, would be built about a half-block south of E. Michigan St., between N. Cass and N. Van Buren streets. That site, owned by U.S. Bank, is between the U.S. Bank Center's galleria and that office tower's parking structure north of E. Clybourn St. Bank executives have been in discussions with hotel operators interested in a potential project at the site, said Joseph Ullrich, U.S. Bank vice president and director of real estate leasing. Those discussions are very preliminary, he said. But the those ta
Chilly Month for Room Sales in Charleston, SC Offers Room for Improvements in Hospitality Industry
January 13, 2014
Jan. 13--Entering the lobby at the Planters Inn on a brisk January afternoon, guests are met with warm heat, light jazz and a certain calmness that can be expected during one of the quietest months of the year for Charleston's hospitality industry. But walk across the gardens to the Piazza Annex, and it's hardly a scene of winter stillness. That side of the Market Street hotel is a beehive of activity, with maintenance and restoration workers busy refinishing bathrooms, painting the roof and polishing tiles, among other tasks. "Since Charleston has become more popular, there's a growing demand, which means there's a growing expectation,
Los Angeles to Debate Hiking Minimum Wage for Hotel Workers to Highest in U.S. to $15.37 Per Hour
January 13, 2014
Jan. 13--Los Angeles could soon take the national lead in dramatically raising the minimum wage -- with members of the City Council expected to propose that large hotels be required to pay roughly $15 an hour to their workers. That rate would more than double the national minimum of $7.25 an hour and push far above California's rate of $8. Union leaders want the increase to apply at hotels with 100 rooms or more, saying such a hike would lift housekeepers, busboys and maintenance workers out of poverty and inject much-needed cash into a still languorous local economy. Council members were expected to bring the proposal forward in the co

January 12, 2014
Jan. 12--FLORENCE -- More reasons to visit Florence has meant a growing number of hotels popping up in the area, and with a steadily increasing occupancy rate, more are on the way. To date, there are 32 hotels, adding up to 3,408 guest rooms, in Florence with two more, TownePlace Suites and Home2 Suites, opening by year's end. Part of the reason for the hotel industry's success here is Florence is being viewed more as a destination and stop-over place, said Holly Beaumier, director of the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau. The most recent data available from 2012 showed that on average, tourists spent more than $740,000 per day in
