Dec. 31--Mohegan Sun on Tuesday submitted its site application for a $1.3 billion resort casino on the grounds of Suffolk Downs racetrack in Revere, Mass. Dec. 31--The Pierpont Inn is starting 2014 with a new name, the Wyndham Garden Ventura Pierpont Inn. Owner Brighton Management renamed the century-old historic property Dec. 18 to try to increase occupancy by using Wyndham's national registration system. The move is already producing results, the company said. On Monday, Wyndham's system generated 16 reservations, which filled nearly 21 percent of the 77-room inn, said Victor Dollar, regional manager for Brighton. OTO Development Proposes 176-room Hotel for Redwood City, California

Dec. 31--Redwood City has received an application to build a five-story hotel next to the city's waterfront. Land for the hotel, located in the residential One Marina site, would need to be purchased from builder Paul Powers. South Carolina-based OTO Development submitted its application in November, according to city Planning Manager Blake Lyon. The hotel envisioned for the nearly 3-acre site at 650 Bair Island Road would boast 176 rooms, a pool, spa, fitness center and a parking garage with roughly 180 parking spaces, Lyon said Monday. Dec. 31--A central Iowa developer has plans to build a new hotel in southeast Ames. In October, Ames Hotel Management Inc., of Ankeny, bought two plats of agricultural land from South Dayton Development LC of Ames, a Haverkamp Properties company, for a total of about $500,000. The land, at 1421 and 1523 S. Dayton Place, is located near several existing hotels, including a Hampton Inn and Super 8, and the El Azteca Mexican restaurant. Dec. 31--The long-closed French Quarter Inn was sold Tuesday morning to California-based NCE Realty & Capital Group. The deep-pocketed firm paid $1.9 million in cash, said one of the sellers, Memphis attorney Donald W. Pemberton. He said it is his "understanding" that the buyers intend to renovate the 105-room Midtown hotel and keep it as a boutique hotel. But Pemberton referred questions about any plans to the buyers. Dec. 31--Tourism helped lead Orange County out of the recession, and hospitality industry leaders expect the good times to continue to roll in 2014. Jay Burress, chief executive of the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, said preliminary numbers show 44.3 million visitors coming to the county in 2013, 500,000 more than in 2012.
