Dec. 20--MGM Resorts International has been selected by a state commission to build an $925 million casino resort in Prince George's County. The seven-member Video Lottery Facility Location Commission voted 5-2 in favor of awarding a license to MGM, which proposed a massive casino beside Interstate 95 at National Harbor. With the vote, MGM's proposal handily beat competing bids by Penn National Gaming, which proposed building a $700 million facility at its Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, and Greenwood Racing, which proposed a $761 million facility off Indian Head Highway nearby. Dec. 20--Atlanta-based InTown Suites announced Friday that President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Griffith is stepping down, and Chief Financial Officer Dennis Cassel will take over as president on Jan. 1. Griffith has been president and CEO of the extended stay hotel chain for nearly 10 years. Cassel has been with the company for nearly nine years. The company, which has more than 1,100 employees, was acquired by the private investment firm Starwood Capital Group in June. Dec. 20--LONDON -- Will Pike, a 33-year-old British man paralysed in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, on Thursday won the right to have his case for damages against Tata-owned Taj hotel heard in the UK. Dec. 19--Bristol, Va., officials announced this morning that a private development group will be renovating several unused downtown buildings to create a new hotel. The 70-room Sessions Hotel is expected to be open in the spring of 2015. The $19 million deal will include $1.2 million in incentives from the city, Bristol Virginia Mayor Guy Odum said after the announcement. Dec. 19--The CEO of MGM Resorts is joining the Obama administration to serve on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council. The White House announced the appointment of James J. Murren to the advisory council in a news release issued this afternoon. Murren has been chairman and chief executive officer of MGM Resorts International since 2008. He has been a member of the board of directors since joining MGM Resorts International in 1998 and president since 1999. Dec. 19--The Naniloa Volcanoes Hotel has a new owner and a new future as a marine art-themed vacation resort in Hilo. A company led by real estate developer Ed Bushor completed the purchase of the oceanfront hotel Tuesday. Work to revitalize the struggling property began quickly, with new landscaping planted in front of the hotel Tuesday and a 20-foot Christmas tree set up Wednesday. "It's looking like an operating hotel actually, instead of a desert like it used to be," Bushor said.
