Nov. 28--YAKIMA -- The Red Lion Yakima Center is among a half-dozen hotels for sale by its parent company. Spokane-based Red Lion Hotel Corp. has put the 156-room hotel at 607 E. Yakima Ave., along with locations in Kennewick, Wenatchee, Kelso, Twin Falls, Idaho, and Pocatello, Idaho, up for sale as part of the company's growth strategy. Proceeds from the sale of hotels will be used to pay down debt, fund upgrades of remaining hotels and support expansion in major Western U.S. city centers, such as San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle and Portland, through franchising. Nov. 27--A New York-based hotel management firm has purchased a half-block property in downtown Portland with plans to build a 23-story, 300-room hotel. The site, at 218 S.W. Jefferson, is the former Pendleton Woolen Mills company headquarters purchased by a group of investors earlier this year. Pendleton PDX LLC demolished the existing building to create a shovel-ready lot for a high-rise development. The investors sold the parcel for $4.5 million to Portland Hotel Ownership LLC in a deal that closed Tuesday, according to Multnomah County records. Orlando Hotels Post Healthy Numbers in October with 67.6% Occupancy and a 3.3% Rise in ADR

Nov. 27--Orlando hotels posted healthy statistics for October, selling more rooms at higher prices. Hotels in the Orlando area filled 67.6 percent of their rooms during the month, compared with 65.5 percent in October 2012. The average daily rate rose 3.3 percent, to $99.63. Michael Terry, an instructor at the University of Central Florida's Rosen College of Hospitality Management, attributed the gains to an economy that's "doing a little better." Nov. 27--A highly anticipated hotel plan that spent five years earning city approval has been scrapped because no developer wants to invest in the ambitiously detailed design. Landowner Gretchen Stroscher Thomson now plans to build a shopping center and restaurant on the 3-acre property on Ortega Highway, just east of Mission San Juan Capistrano. "It is disappointing, because we worked long and hard to bring a hotel to San Juan," she said. "It just wasn't meant to be." Stroscher Thomson said the proposed shopping center will likely include a specialty grocery store and other shops aimed at bringing local residents and visitors downtown.

Nov. 26--One of Atlantic City's few remaining historic hotels has been sold -- seven years after it closed down and speculation began swirling about whether it ever would reopen for business or might fall under the wrecking ball. A newly filed document with the Atlantic County Clerk's Office confirms the sale of the Madison House, although terms have not been disclosed.
