Sept. 23--Chicago's push for a 1,200-room Marriott Marquis convention hotel near the planned DePaul arena moved into court Monday when the city filed an eminent domain lawsuit aimed at acquiring the property next to McCormick Place. The lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court seeks land on East Cermak Road, between Michigan and Indiana Avenues, now owned by 121 E. Cermak LLC, an entity managed by construction executive James McHugh. The action comes a week after McHugh sued the city, alleging it did not have the right to block his plans for a six-story electronic data center on the site. Sept. 21--A Columbus hotel developer has acquired the Grandview Heights-area property in which Cap City Fine Diner & Bar has operated for nearly two decades, hoping one day to incorporate the restaurant with a hotel there. The property at 1299 Olentangy River Rd., which includes a medical building, was purchased a week ago by Cap City Hotels LLC for $3.9 million, according to the Franklin County auditor. Sept. 20--The Garner Town Council approved a rezoning request that will allow development of a Drury Inn hotel, the first step to prepare land for development on the three undeveloped corners of U.S. 70 and Jones Sausage/White Oak Road.
