R.O.I. Hotel Group Breaks Ground on $17.7 Million Hotel at Silver Slipper Casino, Bay St. Louis, MS

Sept. 20--WAVELAND -- Friday morning's groundbreaking officially started construction of a $17.7 million hotel at Silver Slipper Casino. R.O.I. Hotel Group, a Florida-based company that specializes in building casino hotels, was awarded the construction contract. The first guests will check into the 142-room hotel in the fall of 2014. A hotel for the casino in Hancock County has been discussed for years. Andre Hilliou, chairman of Full House Resorts, committed to building the hotel last year when his company bought the Silver Slipper property. Sept. 20--Wilmington's lengthy city campaign to recruit a hotel next to the convention center seems headed closer to a resolution. An agreement between a developer angling to build the hotel and the city will be on the agenda for the city council's Oct. 1 meeting. The agreement would pave the way for the city to sell less than 1 acre of riverfront land to the developer for the hotel. Sept. 18--EDMOND -- Partners in Development is receiving retail opportunity leads for the hotel and conference center in development at the northwest corner of Interstate 35 and Covell, said Steve Commons, assistant city manager. The Edmond City Council approved the negotiated agreements in 2012 for developing the $25.5 million Hilton Garden Inn and conference center. Sept. 18--The Florida Keys' largest resort could be the latest in a flurry of local large-scale and high-cost commercial real estate transactions in recent months. A source familiar with the Keys hotel industry said Tuesday that Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key near mile marker 61 could sell for a price in excess of $125 million. Hawks Cay Resort spokeswoman Holly Lee-Zawyer confirmed only that the resort is for sale. Resort officials declined to be interviewed for this story. Sept. 17--A downtown hotel project that had been held up by a trio of city lawmakers has gained approval. Robert Anderson Jr., one of the councilmen who voted to table a resolution to approve a proposed development agreement with the Hamister Group after raising concerns about the terms of the deal, voted first to remove the item from the table and then to approve the agreement at Monday's City Council meeting.
