Sept. 05--Contractor Gerald A. Martin Ltd. in said Thursday it has completed the $8.6 million Albuquerque Convention Center Phase 1 Remodel. The project consisted of demolition and reconstruction, and was the first phase of a multi-phase upgrade to the outdated facility, the company said in a news release. Sept. 05--Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., will be laying off employees at its Atlantic City properties, though the extent of the cutbacks remain unknown. Brian Cahill, a spokesman for Trump, confirmed that Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino will both see a reduction in staff. He declined to say how many employees will be affected. "Unfortunately, we need to react to the current market situation," he said, adding that the situation is one that many shore businesses experience after the summer season ends. R.D. Olson Development Pitches 170-room Grandview Suites Hotel for Downtown Glendale, CA

Sept. 04--The Planning Board on Monday will consider a proposal to build a five-story, 170-room business hotel with 136 parking spots in downtown Burbank, officials said. An Irvine-based developer has proposed constructing a Grandview Suites hotel on South San Fernando Boulevard between Providencia and Santa Anita avenues, just a block away from the eventual site of a six-story, 210-room Hilton Garden Inn that was approved for construction in May. The proposed Grandview Suites will include a pool, spa, convenience market, meeting space and exercise room, but no on-site convention facility, according to the application submitted by R.D.

Sept. 04--Travel and tourism spending grew a healthy 4 percent in Virginia last year, figures released this afternoon said. In 2012, travelers spent $21.2 billion in the Old Dominion -- a new state record -- according to the study conducted for the Virginia Tourism Corp. "Virginia's tourism industry continues to generate more revenue and create more good jobs," said Gov. Bob McDonnell in a statement. Travel spending directly supported 210,000 jobs in the state last year, or 7 percent of total private-industry employment, the study said. Sept. 04--Longtime Southern Nevada gaming executive Rob Kunkle has been named general manager of the Riviera. Kunkle was most recently vice president and general manager of Station Casinos' Texas Station property. He held several positions with Station, including general manager of the company's Wildfire Gaming division and vice president and general manager of Fiesta Rancho. Sept. 03--Are the Soffers getting ready to own all of the Fontainebleau again? Media outlets are reporting that the Soffers' big-name partner in the Miami Beach resort, the government of Dubai, is ready to sell its 50 percent stake back to the family's Turnberry Associates. The deal would mark a satisfying bookend for Jeffrey Soffer, who spearheaded buying the resort in 2005 and then completing a $700 million renovation in 2008 on the eve of the financial crisis. Carpenter Family and Torgerson Properties Begin Work on 108-room Homewood Suites in Rochester, Minn.

Sept. 03--Construction of Rochester's latest hotel began near Saint Marys Hospital last week. Crews began moving dirt on an open lot on the 1300 block of Second Street Southwest to prepare for construction of a new 108-room, six-story Homewood Suites extended stay hotel. If construction stays on track, it's anticipated to open in the late summer of 2014. The hotel will feature studios and one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites, all with with full kitchens. It will also have an indoor swimming pool and exercise center. Rochester's Carpenter family and Torgerson Properties, of Willmar, are building the Homewood next door to their Courtyard by
