August 29, 2013
Aug. 29--A private parking lot just south of the Healdsburg Plaza is targeted as the site for a new boutique hotel, adding more upscale lodging to the popular tourist town. The Kessler Collection, a Florida-based hotel company, has an option to purchase the parcel in downtown Healdsburg, according to the property owner. And the company also is negotiating with the city to meet parking and other requirements for the project, described as ranging from 60 to 70 rooms, and four to five stories in height, said several people briefed on the details. "It's a pretty big project," said former mayor and contractor Jerry Eddinger, who was offered
LaGrange, GA Could Soon be Home to New 100-room Marriott Branded Hotel; Deal Still in Planning Stage
August 28, 2013
Aug. 28--After several stops and starts, LaGrange is closer to having a downtown hotel than it has been in seven years of planning. LaGrange City Council signed off Tuesday on an agreement between the city, Callaway Foundation, Downtown Development Authority and developer that outlines the hotel plans. The five-story, 100-room hotel, under the Marriott brand, will be built at the site of the former Mansour's department store on the west side of the square. Directly behind the hotel, between it and Country's Barbecue, will be a 200-space parking deck for hotel and public use. "It's a happy day," said Tom Hall, LaGrange city manager, who

Is City of Anniston, AL Right to Buy The Victoria Inn? Only if it Doesn’t Become a Fiscal Albatross
August 27, 2013
Aug. 27--The Victoria Inn isn't Anniston's largest employer, its most recognizable feature or its most valuable piece of real estate. It isn't a cornerstone of the city's future. Without it, Anniston won't crumble. But The Victoria Inn is worth saving -- somehow, some way. An Anniston without its hotel housed in its remaining turn-of-the-century home on Quintard Avenue would be an Anniston that's a little less than what it could have been. Last week, the City Council voted unanimously to offer to buy the hotel from the Jacksonville State University Foundation's real estate holding company for up to $710,000. The Queen Anne-style home (a

August 27, 2013
Aug. 27--Counties across the Charlotte region enjoyed a robust year of visitor spending in 2012, new state data show fueled in part by activities ranging from the Democratic National Convention to hot air balloons and a steeplechase.
