Disney’s Profit up Slightly on Networks & Theme Parks Performance; Posted Net Income of $1.85 B
August 6, 2013
Aug. 06--Walt Disney Co. reported a small increase in net income for its fiscal third quarter, lifted by the performance of its media networks and theme parks. But gains in those areas were blunted by the performance of Disney's movie studio, which posted a 36% decline in operating income from a year earlier -- mostly because of weaker box-office results and marketing costs associated with "The Lone Ranger." Disney Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo said on a conference call with analysts that the company expects to lose $160 million to $190 million on "The Lone Ranger" -- results that would be reflected in its fourth-quarter earnings.

Benson, North Carolina Leaders Seek Developer for 80 to 90-room Limited-Service Hotel
August 4, 2013
Aug. 04--Benson leaders are looking for a developer to build a hotel. A feasibility study completed in July concluded that Benson has enough potential business for a second hotel. The study recommends a limited-service hotel that's part of a recognizable chain. The 80-90 rooms should go for $80-90 per night, it adds. Now Benson officials are trying to find an interested developer, said Joe Stallings, the town's economic-development coordinator. "We've been sending out to potential hotel developers," he said. "We're trying to find someone to partner with to bring this project into fruition." Stallings said town leaders had previously ide
