Baywood Hotels Acquires the Royal Polo Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida for $12.5 Million

July 16--The Royal Polo hotel in Miami Beach has sold to Baywood Hotels for $12.5 million. Closed for years, the hotel is in "shell" condition but has been approved for 96 rooms, a restaurant and lounge. Seller Jonathan Plutzik, who also owns The Betsy hotel, bought the property in 2005 for $6.5 million. Brokerage firm Jones Lang LaSalle's Hotels & Hospitality Group arranged the sale to Baywood, a privately owned hotel management company with five other hotels in South Florida, including a Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn. July 13--A hotel has been penciled into the expansion plans for Mount Pleasant Towne Centre, adding to the recent groundswell of new accommodations planned for the township, officials said. July 13--COLONIE -- A third hotel is being proposed for the busy Wolf Road corridor, to be built on the site of the current Lazare Lincoln dealership at 144 Wolf Road. Developer Howard Carr said the five-story hotel would include 100 to 110 rooms, with two national restaurant chains and a national retailer all part of the project. July 13--BEMIDJI -- After months of waiting, a proposed hotel attached to the Sanford Center appeared to clear one last hurdle this week. Councilors agreed to give developers of the Country Inn & Suites, Wayzata-based Bay Ridge Properties International, 90 days to secure their finances for the $16 million project during an April 16 meeting in exchange for $50,000.
