For a sixth year, the contract will increase the number of available apprenticeships in the hotel and lodging industry
WASHINGTON (November 14, 2023) – AHLA Foundation, in partnership with the Employment and Training Administration Office of Apprenticeship at the U.S. Department of Labor, will expand its registered apprenticeship programs for the hospitality industry. The $505,000 grant will enable AHLA Foundation to serve more than 400 apprentices in one of three pathways: Lodging Manager, Hotel Cook, and Maintenance.
Since 2018, AHLA Foundation’s program has enrolled approximately 2,000 apprentices with 83 employers across the country. Through a combination of on-the-job learning and online education, registered apprenticeship has a proven track record of producing highly qualified and upskilled workers. Apprenticeship has been vital to the post-pandemic recovery of the industry – boasting a 90% retention rate and providing fast-track training that rewards high-performing associates. Upon completion of the program, apprentices earn a certification from the Department of Labor, as well as access to professional development scholarships and certifications through AHLA Foundation.
“Apprenticeships are a powerful tool for recruitment, retention, and advancement in our industry,” said Anna Blue, President of AHLA Foundation. “We’re excited to continue partnering with the Department of Labor to create pathways to lifelong careers.”
Across the industry, employers of varying types and sizes – hotel brands, management companies, and independent properties alike – have all found success with the program.
