RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO (August 20, 2019) – Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya, a luxury resort located along the sparkling Caribbean beachfront of Riviera Maya, Mexico, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sylvia Smith as its Director of Sales and Marketing. In her new role, Smith will lead Andaz Mayakoba’s sales and marketing initiatives as well as generate revenue for the resort through room bookings, meetings, weddings and events.

Bringing nearly 20 years of hospitality experience to her new position, Smith joins the Andaz Mayakoba team with extensive background in the industry and a deep knowledge of international markets. Smith started her hospitality career with Hyatt in 2002 as the International Sales Manager at Grand Hyatt Sao Paulo. In 2007, she proceeded to work as the Associate Director of Sales in for Hyatt’s flagship hotel in the Asia-Pacific region, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, leading Groups team as well as developing strategic partnerships with high-end brands that include Fendi, Prada and Louis Vuitton.
Smith went on to become the Senior Director of Sales for Preferred Hotels & Resorts in Europe before returning to the Hyatt family in 2014, leading the Hyatt Sales Force Office in London, UK, to identify key strategies and needs of the region in addition to marketing new hotel openings and successfully positioning the different Hyatt brands. In her most recent role, Smith served as the Director of Sales & Marketing at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok where she led a team of 40 associates in Sales, Digital, Marketing and Event Sales & Planning, in addition to overseeing the resort’s overall commercial, budgeting and forecasting activities. Smith earned her Bachelors of Business Administration degree at Les Roches Global Hospitality Education in Switzerland.
