(Chicago) James Gould, Principal of Horizon Hotel Group, is pleased to announce that the firm has recently assumed management responsibilities for the Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina located in Alice Town, Bimini, the Bahamas.
The Big Game Club was founded as a supper club in 1936 and was relocated to its current location in 1947. The 51-room resort and marina is owned by Los Angeles-based Hankey Group of Companies – a privately held financial services, real estate and insurance organization. After a $3.5 million renovation inclusive of all guest rooms, the new Bimini Big Game Bar & Grill, Hemingway Rum Bar and Social Lounge and the Outfitter Shop, it was re-opened in 2010.
“Horizon Hotel Group could not be more thrilled and honored to be given the opportunity to take the reins of this famed and historic resort,” stated Gould. “We look forward to creating a great synergy with ownership, the staff and the people of Bimini in furthering the growth and prestige of the amazing Big Game Club.”
Bimini is located just 50 miles from South Florida. Its north and south islands, along with its smaller cays, is part of the Bahamas – an archipelago of 700 islands spanning over 500 miles of open ocean. This pristine locale has long been a favorite destination of anglers and diving enthusiasts. In addition, many celebrities have been drawn to its beauty such as legendary angler and novelist, Zane Grey, Tommy Gifford, billionaire Howard Hughes and retailing genius turned scientist/naturalist, Michael Lerner. Even beloved writer, Ernest Hemingway, was a frequent visitor to Bimini in the 1930’s from his nearby home of Key West.
