Aug. 01–Developers broke ground on a 130-room Marriott Spring Hill Suites hotel on Atascadero’s north end last week. The four-story Marriott project, located on six acres in the Home Depot shopping center on San Ramon Road and El Camino Real, is slated to be complete in 2014.
The approximately 80,000-square-foot hotel will have a “wine country inspired design” with exhibit space, a pool, Jacuzzi and a bar, according to a press release. The hotel project also includes two additional building pads totaling 18,000 square feet suitable for restaurants, gas stations or retail. Details on possible tenants for those spots weren’t disclosed.
Costa Mesa-based Westar Associates is the project developer. The total cost of the hotel will be approximately $21 million, a company spokeswoman said. In addition to Home Depot, the shopping center also has existing stores Staples, Mattress Land, Starbucks and Pink & White Nail & Spa.
