Feb. 05–Loews Hotels says it has begun hiring for more than 600 jobs in Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort, which will become the theme-park resort’s fourth on-site hotel when it opens in the coming weeks.

Available positions in the 1,800-room hotel, which is co-owned by Universal and Loews, range from house keepers and security guards to front office workers and engineers.

Loews plans to host a “grand hire event” to interview potential candidates. Job-seekers can register online to attend at http://www.CabanaBayJobs.com. The hotel operator calls it the first round of hiring for what will eventually be more than 600 new jobs by this summer.

The additional jobs could put the Universal-Loews joint venture in line for more than $900,000 worth of tax breaks through a state incentive program originally meant to draw investment crime-ridden neighborhoods. Universal and its hotel affiliate have together claimed more than $8 million in credits through over the years through the state’s “urban high-crime area” program, which some state lawmakers now want to repeal.
