Aug. 20–A major Downtown redevelopment is about to move from the drawing board to the dirt.

Washington County developer Millcraft Investments will break ground Wednesday on the $95 million Gardens at Market Square complex on Forbes Avenue near Wood Street.

The development, 18 stories at its highest point, will feature 125,000 square feet of office space, a 197-room Hilton Garden Inn, a 335-space parking garage and about 25,000 square feet of street-level retail.

Turner Construction Co., which will be serving as construction manager for the project, also will be taking one floor of office space in the complex. Millcraft also has signed two restaurant tenants — Burgatory and Jackson’s Social Bar and Restaurant.

The developer won approval from the city planning commission in May to move ahead with the project after making changes to the building to address concerns raised by the owners and occupants of the Benedum Trees and Investment buildings on Fourth Avenue adjacent to the new development.

Millcraft hopes to have the building completed in 2015.
