Dec. 19–Bristol, Va., officials announced this morning that a private development group will be renovating several unused downtown buildings to create a new hotel.
The 70-room Sessions Hotel is expected to be open in the spring of 2015.
The $19 million deal will include $1.2 million in incentives from the city, Bristol Virginia Mayor Guy Odum said after the announcement. The cash incentives will be paid once construction is complete and the hotel opens for business.
The hotel will be built at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and State Street behind the Scotsman Exxon. The gas station will be demolished, but several buildings behind it will be renovated into the hotel, which will include a rooftop bar, a spa and some other businesses.
Planners and developers have been working on the proposed project for about a year. The project is being developed and the hotel will be owned by Creative Boutique Hotels, a Roanoke, Va., partnership.
The buildings involved in the project include Owen Equipment, KSS, Jobbers Candy and the Mill.
