Aug. 12–GREENSBORO — Local businessman Randall Kaplan said today he and other investors are planning to build a 180-room luxury conference hotel at the Elm Street Center downtown.
He said it could be ready to open in late 2015. Kaplan said his group is working with Wyndham on the project, which would be built between Elm and Davie streets along February One Place.
Kaplan said they will provide more details in a formal announcement in the future.
Here’s his statement to the News & Record: “With the improvement in the economy and the brightened prospects for downtown, we have been working diligently on our project to build a 180-room conference hotel at the Elm Street Center. The hotel would create well over 100 much needed jobs. And we are working with Wyndham and our development partner to be in a position to open in late 2015 and we hope to have a more formal announcement in the near future.”
The hotel project is the second announced in the last few days. Developer Roy Carroll said Friday he wants to build a hotel on North Greene Street near NewBridge Bank Park.
