Oct. 03–A Washington Road hotel has been “condemned for occupancy” after a visit by city officials last month.
Rob Sherman, the city’s director of License and Inspection, said Thursday morning thata task force that included officials from the health and fire departments, code enforcement, sheriff’s office and other agencies visited America’s Best Value Inn, 3023 Washington Road, in early September after complaints about its condition. The task force found several problems, he said, including a lack of building maintenance and roach infestation.
“What we’re really finding is they’re renting the rooms but not investing in the property,” Sherman said.
The issues were pointed out to the hotel’s management at the time of the inspection.
On Wednesday, a letter was delivered to the management saying the hotel was condemned for occupancy.
Sherman said the hotel has seven days to vacate the property and come up with a plan to address the issues.
Calls to the hotel were not returned. A supervisor in its corporate office said he was unaware of a change in the hotel’s status.
