Boston, MA – March 2,  2021 Boston University’s School of Hospitality Administration (BU SHA) Dean Arun Upneja, PhD, and Associate Professor of the Practice Leora Halpern Lanz, ISHC,  Faculty Chair of the School’s Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) degree program, have announced the launch of a new concentration: Senior Living.

Complementing existing concentrations in Revenue Management & AnalyticsReal Estate and FinanceDigital Marketing, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship, this concentration in Senior Living expands SHA’s reach, extending hospitality to other areas where students’ skill sets are much needed.

“The MMH concentration in Senior Living provides students the opportunity to bring the hospitality experience to the rapidly growing senior living and long-term care industries,” states Dean Upneja. “This concentration is offered for job opportunities and to enable students who wish to pursue a field that is altruistic and socially responsible; this is a field that cares for seniors today and tomorrow. Pursuing a career in Senior Living means doing well by doing good.”

Courses in the MMH program include the SHA required classes in Leadership, Finance and Branding & Marketing. Specific to this concentration are new classes in Senior Living Operations, Monitoring the Resident Journey Experience and the Business of Senior Care. Optional electives are also available in Hospitality Real Estate Financing & Feasibility and through the Boston University School of Social Work (Social Policy and Programs in Aging; Clinical Practice with Older Adults) and Boston University’s School of Public Health (Individual, Community and Population Health).

“This concentration focuses on the core requirements for hospitality executives to understand how skills can be transferred from traditional hospitality operations to those in senior living communities,” explains Lanz. “We are also grateful to NIC, the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing, for its support of our new program.”

The program will launch Fall 2021 and applications are online now. For more information or to learn more about the Senior Living concentration, visit https://www.bu.edu/hospitality/academics/mmh/bu-mmh-senior-living/ .
