TEMPE, Ariz. (Feb. 20, 2020) – Driftwood Capital announced today that Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown, Arizona’s first Canopy by Hilton hotel and the first location for the brand in the Southwest, will open its doors early this spring in the heart of downtown Tempe.
The contemporary, full-service hotel will offer a local experience with a boutique feel, bringing 198 spacious guest rooms and suites, along with approximately 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space, to the corner of University and Myrtle Avenue. The hotel will feature the East Valley’s only full-service rooftop pool and bar on the 14th floor, providing a scenic venue for gathering, tapas-style light bites and a curated local cocktail menu, as well as a signature restaurant on the ground floor.
The executive team for the hotel is made up of longtime Valley hospitality professionals including General Manager Alan Klein, Director of Sales and Marketing Jennifer Worthley-Gasca, Director of Food and Drink Claudia Sojo and Executive Chef Ken Arneson.
“We look forward to bringing a brand-new hotel, restaurant and rooftop bar to the city of Tempe and the East Valley, filling a niche for an elevated, yet approachable lifestyle destination for locals and business professionals alike,” said Alan Klein. “With an innovative design inspired by the neighborhood surroundings, our hotel guests will be able to discover all that downtown Tempe offers with our complimentary transportation, Canopy bikes and a local welcome gift upon check-in. We are all about delightful extras to help our guests relax and revive.”
Adorned with art curated by local Arizona artists, the hotel is designed with a modern aesthetic inspired by the spirit of the Southwest, highlighting the neighborhood’s cultural roots mixed with the emerging city scene. The exterior panels of the building are emblazoned with an interpretation of the Arizona State University fight song as a nod to the adjacent local university, a design intent incorporated by Scottsdale-based Allen + Philp by digitizing the notes of the song that are wrapped around the building represented by colored panels.
Situated within a commuter-friendly urban corridor, the hotel is centrally located at 108 E. University Drive, just five miles from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and just steps away from some of the area’s finest shopping centers, culinary offerings, entertainment destinations such as Desert Financial Arena and local landmarks including Tempe Town Lake, Mill Avenue District and Tempe Beach Park.
